When considering a new account (savings account, term deposit or other investment), it is important to consider how many days it will take to set up the account and to transfer your money. If your money has to sit in a non interest bearing transaction account for, say 5 days to wait for paperwork to clear, then this can have a dramatic effect on the effective interest rate you are getting.

When you're keen to see your money grow, the last thing you want is to wait around for paperwork to be processed. That's why we created UBank Turbo - so you can start earning interest on your money even sooner.

interest payment frequency

You no longer offer Term Deposits with quarterly or 6-monthly interest frequencies. What does that mean for me who's already got one?

Nothing for now. But at the expiration of your current term we'll get in touch, and you can choose either 'interest paid monthly' or 'interest paid at maturity'.

When I log into Internet Banking, my Term Deposit account is shown as 'Term Deposit Interest Paid at Maturity' but my interest is paid monthly. What does this mean?

UBank Term Deposits now have two interest payment options - at maturity; or monthly. If you have an existing Term Deposit with interest paid monthly, you'll continue to see the product name as 'Term Deposit Interest Paid at Maturity' until the expiration of the current term, but your interest rate and payment frequency will not be affected.

I have a UBank 12 month Term Deposit with interest paid monthly. What will my interest rate be?

Your interest rate and payment frequency will not be affected for the current term. View all our rates.

maturity

How will I know when my UBank Term Deposit is maturing?

For a 1 month term, if you're ever unsure when your term's maturing, simply call us on 13 30 80 - anytime at all.

For all other terms, we'll let you know before your maturity. It's really important you tell us what you want to do before maturity, which you need to do no later than 5 days before your official end-date. If we don't hear from you, we'll roll your money over into a new term deposit, at the current rate.

Alternatively, you can set up an SMS alert to remind you when your term deposit is to mature. To do this simply login online and go to 'MyMoney'.

What are my options at maturity of my UBank Term Deposit?

  • Re-invest (and add more to it if you like). If you choose to leave the money where it is, you may be eligible for our unique UBank Loyalty Bonus, which is 0.10% p.a. above the current rate on the maturity date.
  • Re-invest a reduced amount.
  • Take the money and run.

How do I tell you what I want to do at maturity?

Call us on 13 30 80, no later than 5 days before maturity.

Am I eligible for the Loyalty Bonus?

Once your term matures and you choose to rollover your full deposit (or more) we'll give you the unique UBank Loyalty Bonus - which is 0.10% p.a. above our already impressive term deposit rate.

Can I add more money to my UBank Term Deposit?

You can't add money during the term of your term deposit. But once your account has reached maturity you can add additional funds to your UBank Term Deposit (and you may be eligible to get our 0.10% p.a. unique UBank Loyalty Bonus for doing so).

Of course, you can always open a new UBank Term Deposit account.

Can I send money overseas?

No. Your chosen bank account can only be set up with Australian financial institutions.

Can I withdraw my UBank Term Deposit Early?

You can, but we may reduce the interest payable on your term deposit by a reasonable estimate of the costs to us, known as a Pre-payment Cost.

What is a Pre-payment Cost?

If you withdraw an amount from your term deposit prior to maturity, we may reduce the interest earned by what we consider to be a reasonable estimate of the costs to us. This cost, known as a Pre-payment Cost, may total (or be up to) the accrued interest amount, but will not exceed this amount.

How do you calculate the Pre-payment Cost?

We calculate the difference between the interest rate at the time of your initial deposit and interest rates at the time you want to withdraw your funds. If interest rates have increased since your deposit was lodged, the cost to UBank to replace those funds withdrawn will have increased.

Then we calculate the cost of replacing the funds withdrawn and deduct this from your accrued interest.
